HDR Engineering is looking for a Seller-Doer to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals as a Distribution Engineering Team Manager.
The primary duties of a Distribution Engineering Team Manager include executing and managing all aspects of electrical distribution projects of all sizes and complexity, including scope and/or proposal development, project team development and assignment, project execution, project closeout, and quality control, schedule, and budget management. Experience with distribution lines, and associated strategic service aspects of projects is desired, with strong technical experience a must.

As the HDR Distribution Engineering Team Manager you will have the opportunity to shape our distribution practice, and impact the industry around the world.
HDR Engineering is looking for a Power Distribution Engineering Team Manager to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in Texas.

Primary Responsibilities
The primary duties of the Distribution Engineering Manager include responsibility for knowledge and execution of the technical and commercial aspects and deliverables of electrical distribution projects and/or programs assigned and is an experienced, competent engineer who understands and can complete all technical requirements of projects and can interface and build relationships with clients.

Duties Include

  • Establishes and maintains the primary local relationship with key local clients.
  • Leads the technical direction for distribution services for key local clients.
  • Technically mentors' junior staff locally and in other offices on the nuances of work for specific clients.
  • Provide guidance on routine engineering and design tasks, and participate in field reviews or construction observation.
    Assigns tasks and provides guidance to team members, and coordinates QC reviews for work performed by engineers and/or designers, locally and in other offices.
  • May attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.
    May also assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
  • May perform project management duties as needed.
  • May supervise local staff and grow a local design team.
  • Works with HDR leadership to help drive development and preparation of proposals within the Practice.
  • Identifies and develops opportunities to expand services to clients.
  • Select, train, develop and manage technical personnel
  • Manage and develop multidiscipline teams
  • Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering preferred, or applicable equivalent experience.
  • PE required
  • Minimum 7 years of electrical distribution line design experience required.
  • Experience performing structural analysis, plan and profile preparation, line optimization, preparing specifications, drawings, construction staking and other engineering documents required for overhead and underground distribution line projects.
  • Experience with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
  • Some travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and client relationships with Austin Energy preferred.
  • Roadway and area lighting design experience desired
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, Osmose O-Calc, and other design software preferred.
  • Transmission line design experience would be added value.
