Overview

Solutions Support Engineers at Edmund Optics (EO) work within the Manufacturing Services Group (MSG) of the Sales team and are responsible for directly interfacing with customers who are interested in learning more about EO's custom manufacturing capabilities. Solutions Support Engineers perform job functions such as reviewing incoming custom requests for quote (RFQs), determining initial technical and business feasibility of such requests, and working with Solutions Engineers to establish market-competitive pricing and closing the sale.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

    Answer customer technical questions toward development of custom sales opportunities via phone, chat, and email.
  • Help facilitate the pre-sales process for custom opportunities from unmanaged accounts, including reviewing RFQs for completeness and technical feasibility and entering requests into EO's internal tools.
  • Recognize and communicate significant custom sales opportunities to Inside and Outside sales colleagues.
  • Work closely with other Solutions Engineers to stay current with manufacturing and test capabilities.
  • Assist in a variety of side tasks (e.g. technical content creation, data clean-up, etc.) to better support MSG customers and colleagues.
  • Assist at industry tradeshows (up to 2-3 times per year).
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge and technical aptitude in optics or a related field
  • Basic customer service skills and phone etiquette
  • Professional demeanor
  • Proficient in active listening and effective communication
  • Capable of critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and problem solving
  • Ability to review, edit, and draft technical documents such as optical component drawings and spec sheets
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Capable of multi-tasking and tolerating a high level of stress
  • Capable of keeping track of numerous ongoing customer conversations
  • Requires minimal supervision and direction
  • Preferred: US citizenship or permanent residency (green card)

Education/Experience:

.Minimum: Associates degree or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to operate office equipment; ability to sit at desk or PC for long periods of time; work in office setting
