Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

Supports Calpine's trading, structuring, and origination functions. Works closely with regional gas and power desks to identify gas transaction needs and prioritize deal flow. Price and structure various deals and agreements while maintaining constant communication across the gas desk, power desk, various internal functions and external counterparties. Analyzes and evaluates transaction structuring options and makes recommendations to increase market penetration and profitability. Develops marketing plans and serves as subject matter expert and provides market intelligence regarding project development and acquisition opportunities with respect to natural gas footprint. Responsible for working with internal Calpine groups and external vendors to provide the necessary data to analyze and evaluate physical asset opportunities across multiple trading sub-regions.

  • Developing comprehensive knowledge gas and power.
  • Applies skills contributing to knowledge areas within function, but not yet an expert in all.
  • Represents Calpine's interest on appropriated regional and /or national industry functions, groups or meetings.

  • Makes recommendations on moderately complex issues regarding project components and tasks.
  • Regularly contributes useful ideas for own work area as well as others.
  • May make recommendations on new processes, tools and services; supports and contributes to development of new products, services or techniques.

Work Complexity & Independent Judgment

  • Works on problems of diverse scope ranging from moderate to complex.
  • Work often consists of detailed and complex tasks, but normally under the direction of trade floor management.
  • Uses independent judgment requiring in-depth analysis of variable factors. Collaborates with senior professionals in selection of methods, techniques, and analytical approach.

Self-Management & Leadership

  • Little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.
  • May be designated project or technical lead for an ongoing process or short-term project within own department.

Communication & Influence

  • Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instruction and reporting results.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • Typically requires 3+ years' experience mostly concentrated in analytical modeling and performance.
